David Charles Hart, 83, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield surrounded by his family.
He was born February 8, 1933, in Gosport, the son of Harry and Vadis (Hobson) Hart. On January 11, 1958, he married his wife of 58 years, Wilma (Moore) Hart, and she survives.
David is also survived by his three daughters, Cathi St. John and husband, Will, of Rushville, Kristi Hart of Indianapolis, and Lori Stier and husband, Daniel, of Franklin; sister, Nancy Wood of Huntsville; grandchildren, Matthew St. John, David Stier, Michael St. John and Abby Stier; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Billy Hart and Richard Hart; and sisters, Martha Whitesitt, Betty Pegg, Marion Wood and Linda Trout.
David graduated from Markleville High School in 1951.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
David was a heavily active member of the Morristown Christian Church, where he formerly served as an elder.
He served as an Indiana State Trooper from 1963 to 1988, retiring with 25 years of service. After retirement he was the director of Shelby County Community Corrections for seven years; he worked security at Indianapolis Power and Light for 14 years, retiring in 2012.
David was also a member of the Morristown Masonic Lodge No. 193, where he was a 50-year member and a past master; he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing and woodworking. David also enjoyed visiting with people and he didn’t know a stranger. He loved to eat pie, with his favorite being hot or cold. He loved country and gospel music.
David was a wonderful husband and a loving and devoted father and grandfather. He loved to spend time with his family and friends, and attending his grandchildren sporting events.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2016 and from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Morristown Christian Church, 209 S. Washington St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Pastor Fred Hickman and Bill Farmer officiating.
Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown, with military graveside rites conducted by the local military committee.
Service have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
