David Douglas Hemming

David Douglas Hemming, 61, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville. He was born March 10, 1953, in St. Joseph, Michigan, the son of Fred and Evelyn (Wach) Hemming. He married Katherine “Kate” Elmore, on May 22, 1989, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Kelly Gaul of Paw Paw, Michigan, Krista Satcher of Wilmington, North Carolina, Pamela Kaoma and husband, Martin, of Harrison Township, Michigan and Laura Mathieu and husband, Terrance, of Fayetteville, North Carolina; brother, Donald Hemming of St. Joseph; nine grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Tortorici and husband, Joseph, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. David graduated from Bridgman High School in Bridgman, Michigan. He attended First United Methodist Church. David had worked as the quality manager at Arvin Meritor in Columbus since 2000. He was also a licensed home inspector and owned and operated Blue River Home Inspection Services. He enjoyed attending the National Hot Rod Association U.S. Nationals race on Labor Day. David loved to travel. He was a member of Hoosier Lighthousing Club, preserving lighthouses and their history. He also leaves behind his beloved friend and companion, Alex, his dog. A gathering of friends will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. A celebration of David’s life will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
