David H. Snyder

David H. Snyder, 85, of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2006, at St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove. Born Nov. 26, 1920, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Wilbur and Mary Adeline (Dellekamp) Snyder. He married Catherine Weidner on Feb. 16, 1946, and she survives. Other survivors include one son, John D. (wife, Alice) Snyder of Westfield; one daughter, Jan Hagerty of Columbus; two sisters, Mary Jane Walton and Catherine Schoentrup, both of Shelbyville; one brother, Jim Snyder of Tucson, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Brian Hagerty and Dana Hagerty, both of Columbus; and one great-grandson, Nathan Hagerty. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Fern Kappes and Ruth E. Clawson; and three brothers, Jay Snyder, Wayne Snyder and Dick Snyder. Mr. Snyder had been a fireman for the Shelbyville Fire Department for 32 years, retiring in 1979. He also had been a carpenter for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. Mr. Snyder graduated in 1939 from St. Joseph Catholic High School. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, 232 W. Broadway St. Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St. Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.
