David L. Conway, 68, of Columbus, formerly of Shelbyville and Fort Wayne, passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at his residence.
He was born April 23, 1945, in Shelbyville, the son of Norman D. and Lillian J. (McIntyre) Conway. David married Barbara E. Thompson on June 12, 1971, and she preceded him in death on January 16, 2003. On July 23, 2005, he married Susan Warner-Conway, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Nic (wife, Jennifer) Conway of Fort Wayne and Danny (wife, Jonna) Powers of Shelbyville; daughter, Betsy Ogden of Fort Wayne; stepson, Jason Warner of Indianapolis; brothers, Ronnie “Joe” (wife, Lynn) Conway, Timothy (wife, Janice) Conway and Danny (wife, Terri) Conway, all of Shelbyville; sister, Linda Conway of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Barbie Sue, Greg, Darin, Davey, Andy, Jared, Mallory, Kyle, Novelyn and Haley; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Teresa Taylor.
David graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1963.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1963 to 1967, during Vietnam on the USS Essex.
David retired from General Electric in Fort Wayne in 2005, where he was a wire mill wire enameler, after 36 years of service. He was currently employed at NTN Drive Shaft in Columbus for the past five years.
He was a member of Town and Country Christian Church and attended East Columbus United Methodist Church in Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Eagles in Shelbyville.
David enjoyed bass fishing and playing golf.
He loved his grandchildren and enjoyed a very special bond with his son, Nic.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon Friday, June 7, 2013 at the funeral home, with Pastors Charles Aigner and George Mitchell officiating.
Interment will be in Union Chapel Cemetery in Shelby County.
