Delbert Calvin McNamara, 75, of Fountaintown, passed away Monday, July 7, 2014 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation in Greenwood.
He was born April 10, 1939, in Indianapolis, the son of Clyde E. and Carrie E. (Tanner) McNamara. On November 18, 1965, he married his wife of 48 years, Karen Smith, and she survives.
Also surviving are his daughters, Christina Herrera and husband, Johnny, of Fairland and Cynthia Bluhm and husband, Steve, of Fort Wayne; brother, Dale McNamara and wife, Carolyn, of Fountaintown; grandchildren, Isabella, Ethan, Jakob, Eleyna and Lukas; mother-in-law, Marjorie Smith of Shelbyville; and a loving extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Delbert graduated from Moral Township High School in 1957 and Marion University in 1992, with a degree in Respiratory Therapy.
He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church and served in the National Guard.
Delbert formerly owned and operated McNamara Strawberries and McNamara Apples and Cider. During the winters he would travel to Colorado and work as a lift foreman at the ski resorts. After retiring, he went to college and became a respiratory therapist, working at Community East Hospital and several nursing facilities, retiring in 2005.
He enjoyed golfing, snow skiing and his Wednesday morning breakfast group at McDonald’s.
Delbert also leaves behind his dog, Reuben.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at the funeral home, with Rev. Mike Beck officiating.
Interment will be at New Palestine Cemetery in New Palestine.
