Dennis J. McDarby, 83, of Morristown, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at Manor Care South in Indianapolis.
Born March 30, 1923, in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of Neal and Virginia (Calvin) McDarby. He married Patricia Kain in 1946, and she preceded him in death in 1960. He married Julia A. Redmon on July 21, 1984, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Dennis J. (wife, Alice) McDarby of Finley, Ohio, and J. Patrick McDarby of San Diego, Calif.; five daughters, Maureen McDarby and Susan (husband, Jeff) Hoe, both of San Francisco, Calif., Mary (husband, Jeff) Patterson of Lakeland, Fla., Shannon Antcliff of Columbus and Melody (husband, Dennis) Burton of Morristown; one brother, J. Patrick McDarby of Collegeville, Minn.; one sister, Nancy McDarby of St. Joseph, Minn.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He also was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Brian McDarby; one brother, Neal McDarby; and one sister, Mary Ann McDarby.
Mr. McDarby had been a supervisor at Freudenberg-NOK in Shelbyville and Morristown, retiring in 1985.
He graduated from Auburn High School in 1942 and from the University of St. Louis in St. Louis.
Mr. McDarby was a U.S. Army Air Corps. veteran, serving as a lieutenant and a pilot during World War II. He was a member of the305 Bomb Group and a former prisoner of war.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a life member of the American Legion and 8th Air Force Historical Society.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. J. Patrick McDarby officiating.
Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.
