Dick Henry Vysma, 86, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, December 30, 2011 at his residence.
Born April 16, 1925, in Sahwalunto, Sumatra, Indonesia, he was the son of Frederik and Adriana Vysma (van Don). He married Dina W. Vysma (de Fouw) on April 29, 1955, who preceded him in death.
Survivors include her daughters, Marianne Vysma of The Hague, The Netherlands and Ingrid (husband, Walter) Manley of Richmond, Virginia; son, Ronald (wife, Christina) Vysma of Indianapolis; sister Barbara Cleintuar of Kona, Hawaii and grandsons, Cooper and Jude Vysma
Mr. Vysma emigrated to the United States in March of 1968 from The Netherlands; one of his first homes was in Linthicum, Maryland, where they met their American family, Jim and Pat Duffy and their seven children.
They later moved to Shelbyville from Pottstown, Pennsylvania in 1985.
He was employed at Knauf Insulation in Shelbyville from 1985 until retiring 1990.
Mr. Vysma served in the Dutch Army.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm, Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services at 6 pm at the funeral home, with Rev. Robert Campbell officiating.
