Don Walter Coffey, 83, of Milroy, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.
He was born September 19, 1933, in Indianapolis, the son of Walter and Mildred (Young) Coffey. On May 5, 1957, he married his wife of 59 years, Sharon Sue (Garner) Coffey, and she survives.
Don is also survived by his daughters, Kathy Jo Thomas and husband, Mike, and Nancy Ann Cossairt and husband, Jim, both of Shelbyville; sons, Mark Alan Coffey and wife, Marti, and Jeffrey Alan Coffey and wife, Karla, both of Shelbyville; special nephew, William Hugh Garner and wife, Michelle, of St. Paul; sister, Alma Jean Leffew Waltz of Rowlett, Texas; grandchildren, Charles Frederick Thomas, Sarah Elizabeth Thomas, Craig J. Coffey, Jessica Lynn Cossairt, Emily Rose Coffey, Andrew James Cossairt and Mason Dhane Coffey; great-grandchildren, Steven Todd Trowbridge, Elizabeth Jean Trowbridge and Ava Marie Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister, Marion Louise Coffey.
Don graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1951, while working at Worland Drug Store and Admiral Corporation.
He was a member of Moscow Christian Church.
Don was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, stationed at 29 Palms Marine Corps Base in California.
He retired from AT&T as a lineman, with 42 years of service, in 1994.
Don was a member of the American Legion Post No. 70 and the Pioneer Club of AT&T.
He enjoyed sitting on his swing, reading books and watching the birds.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Reverends George Huff and Mark Wesner officiating.
Inurnment will be at a later date at Moscow Cemetery in Rush County.
