Donald Neal "Benny" Benefiel, 85, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Major Hospital.
Born June 2, 1924, in Shelby County, he was the son of Ross and Ruth (Kuhn) Benefiel. He married Betty Rose Feller on January 7, 1944, and she preceded him in death on May 28, 1998.
Survivors include his sons, Donald (wife, Linda) Benefiel Jr. of Indianapolis, Bruce (wife, Sheryl) Benefiel of Brownsburg and Todd (wife, Terri) Benefiel of Greenwood; daughters, Barbara (husband, Dick) Staats of Shelbyville, Brooke (husband, Tom) Snyder of Fort Wayne and Betsi (husband, Russell) Cunningham of Jeffersonville; brothers, Wayne Benefiel of Carmel and Alton Benefiel of Morristown; sister, Charlene McColley of Shelbyville; 16 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillian Del Romano, Eileen Shelton, Joann Woods and Iris Barriger; and brother, Doyle Benefiel.
Mr. Benefiel was a salesman his entire life, working at Bradley Hall Furniture from 1944 to 1955 and at Wal-Mart for 23 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Benefiel was a member of Little Blue River Baptist Church, American Legion and Eagles Lodge and a charter member of the Moose Lodge.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
