DONALD 'DON' SCHERER, of Chicago, IL and Shelbyville, IN, died April 15, 2015, after a long illness. The son of the late Frank and Marion Scherer, of Skokie, IL, he graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago and received his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH. He was the owner of Scherer Construction from its founding in 1972 until his illness in 2009. Don, the husband of Barbara Labanz for nearly 40 years, was also the beloved father of Jennifer (Steven) Marshall and the proud grandfather of Blaze, Jett and Isabelle. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia (Albert) Brunner and Rose Scherer Ullberg and their children, as well as the Labanz and Vester family of Cincinnati. Visitation: Sunday, April 19th, from 4 to 8 p.m., at HABEN Funeral Home & Crematory, 8057 Niles Center Rd., Skokie. Services: Funeral, Monday, April 20th, at 10:15 a.m., from the funeral home, for Mass, 10:30 a.m., at St. Peter Catholic Church, 8110 Niles Center Rd., Skokie. Interment private. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. 758517, Topeka, KS, 66675, or to a charity of your choice. Local arrangements were entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
