Doris Eileen Patterson

Doris Eileen Patterson, 96, of Greenwood, formerly of Fairland, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Greenwood Village South in Greenwood. She was born June 27, 1919, in St. Paul, the daughter of the late Archie I. and Mary Harriet (Arnold) Paramore. She married Meredith Patterson on January 31, 1942, and he preceded her in death on August 3, 1991. Doris is survived by her son, William Keith Patterson and wife, Fran, of Wayland, Massachusetts; and a granddaughter, Mary Patterson of Somerville, Massachusetts. She graduated from Purdue University in 1941, and completed her dietetic internship at Indiana University Medical Center. Doris was a former member of Fairland United Methodist Church, and a current member of Christ United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. She was also a 50 year member of Order of Eastern Star Fairland Chapter No. 359, and the Retired Teachers Association. She was a dietician at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis for two years. She taught school for 28 years, teaching at Manilla, Morristown, Fairland and retiring from Shelbyville Schools in 1981. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Fairland Cemetery in Fairland.
