Doris Mae Bender

Doris Mae "Toots" Bender, 90 of Shelbyville passed away Friday, January 30, 2009 at Heritage House Convalescent Center in Shelbyville. Born December 2, 1918 in Shelby County to Arthur and LaVanche (Baker) Lowe. She married Walter E. Adams and he preceded her in death on October 29, 1963, she then married Walter Bender on April 22, 1973, and he preceded her in death on October 30, 2004. Survivors include daughters, Molly Jane Wiseman of Indianapolis, Cindy (husband, Bill) Murphy of Shelbyville and Sharon Lynne (husband, Gary) Neese of Brazil; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and sons, Joe Adams and Walter Lee Bender, Jr. Mrs. Bender was a lifelong resident of Shelbyville. She was formerly employed in the office at Charles Major Manor. Mrs. Bender was a fifty-year member of the Flat Rock Eastern Star and Beteran of Foriegn War Auxiliary. She was a member of the West St. United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Wednesday, February 4, 2009 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Funeral and Eastern Star services will be at 1 pm Wednesday at the funeral home, with Revs. Carl Ewick and Perry Richards officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery.
