Doris “Ruth” Brown Theobald, 90, of Shelbyville, was ill for about two years before passing away on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
She was born March 30, 1925, in Rush County, the daughter of Howard and Laura “May” (King) Brown. She married Joe Theobald on May 1, 1943, and he preceded her in death on August 31, 1960.
Ruth is survived by her four children, Sharon Rensberger and husband, Terry, Janet Drook, Phillip Theobald and wife, Deborah and Jane Allman and husband, Roger; sister, Avis Brown; grandchildren, Dave Rensberger and wife, Jessica, Scott Rensberger, Tim Drook and wife, Ellen, Brian Drook, Joe Theobald and wife, Annie, Dan Theobald and wife, Mariah, Thomas Theobald, and wife, Elyse, Anna Allman and John Allman and wife, Laura; great-grandchildren, Audrey Rensberger, Cosette and Cara Drook, Bradley, Gracie and Greenley, Phillip and Samuel Theobald and Eva Kate and Emery Allman; and many loved nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Betty Baker.
Ruth graduated from Manilla High School in 1943.
Her faith was very important to her. After she and Joe were married, they attended the Little Blue River Baptist Church just around the corner from their home. She was a member of the Ladies Aid and Missionary Society, taught Sunday school from time to time and enjoyed going to the annual conference in Green Lake, Wisconsin. During the last years she had doctor’s appointments and hospital stays, where she would tell others about her faith. She was an inspiration to her family, and her friends. She lived her life trying to show God’s love to others.
She was a good cook, avid gardener, seamstress and well-known for her cherry pie and homemade carmels.
Ruth worked in the Union Township Elementary school cafeteria, the JCPenney Store in Shelbyville, and then at the Sampler Furniture and Gift Shop in Homer.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 4, 2015 at the funeral home, with Rev. Bob Langdon officiating.
Interment will be at Bennett Cemetery.
