Doris T. Curran

Doris Tuttle Curran, 91, of Shelbyville, formerly of Rush County, died on Friday, June 1, 2012, at the Givens Health Care Center in Asheville, North Carolina. Mrs. Curran was a daughter of the late Max and Mary Jo Honecker Tuttle. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Curran. Mrs. Curran was a native of Indianapolis, IN. In 1944, she married John and they moved to his family's farm in Rush Co., IN. She received an undergraduate degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, and a Master's Degree in Education from Butler University She taught elementary school for 31 years, mostly in the Shelby Co., IN, Eastern District. Mrs. Curran was active in many professional and educational groups, including the Shelby Co. Retired Teacher's Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, and AAUW. She was also an active member of First Presbyterian Church, in Shelbyville, IN, where she served in many capacities. Mrs. Curran is survived by her daughter, Rev. Jane Mary Curran, of Asheville; and brothers, Max Tuttle and wife Ann, and David Tuttle and wife Pat, all of Texas. A memorial service for Mrs. Curran will be at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Leah Brown, and Mrs. Curran?s daughter, the Rev. Jane Mary Curran, officiating. Private graveside service at Crown Hill Cemetery. Services entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 124 West Broadway St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
