Dorothy Andrews Stieglitz, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, February 21, 2011 at Waldron Health and Rehab.
Born December 24, 1922, in Saratoga Springs, New York, she was the daughter of F. Andrew and Grace (Bibbins) Hall. She married Henry George Stieglitz on April 19, 1947, and he preceded her in death on August 23, 1980.
Survivors include her sons, Tom Stieglitz and Joe (wife, Debra) Stieglitz, both of Shelbyville, and John Stieglitz of Nebo, Kentucky; brother, Andrew (wife, Sue) Hall of Vernon, Connecticut; grandsons, Justin (wife, Monica) Stieglitz and Matthew Stieglitz; great-grandsons, Quentin and Andrew Joseph; and great-granddaughter, Bella.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael Andrews Stieglitz and Henry George Stieglitz; and sister, Emily Dwyer.
She graduated from Saratoga High School in 1940 and from Albany Business College.
Mrs. Stieglitz lived and worked in Washington D.C. as a secretary ("government girl") during World War II. Later she went to Kansas City, Missouri to study to become an airline radio operator and then returned to Saratoga. She and her husband moved to Shelbyville, Indiana in the late 1950's, when required by his job.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joe's Social Club.
Mrs. Stieglitz enjoyed attending functions at the Elks with her husband and golfing, bowling, reading and oil painting.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, February 25, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St., with Father Chris Craig officiating.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
