Dorothy J. “Jean” Burch, 71, of Shelbyville, passed away Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
She was born February 3, 1944, in Acton, the daughter of Clifford and Ruth (Hodge) McNew. On December 10, 1961, she married her husband of 53 years, Frank L. Burch, and he survives.
Jean is also survived by her sons, David Burch of Shelbyville and Mark Burch and wife, Michelle, of Morristown; brothers, Dick McNew of West Virginia, Dale McNew of Florida, Jerry McNew, and Roger McNew and wife, Kathy, both of Acton; sisters, Annie Montgomery of Indianapolis, and Wanda McNew of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Tiara Black and husband, Grant and Tiffany Castro and husband, Tino, Amber Burch and Tony Burch; great-grandchildren, Brooklyne, Braelyne, Omar and Adrian; uncle, Bill Sherrill of Indianapolis; and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents who raised her, Dale and Mary McNew; sisters, Mary Alice McNew and Barbara Ramey; special aunts, Ruth Ann and Dot.
Jean graduated from Triton Central High School in 1963 and attended banking classes.
She attended West Street United Methodist Church and was a member of London Baptist Church.
Jean formerly worked at Standard Grocery for 15 years. She retired from Farmer’s National Bank, now PNC, in February of 2009, with 21 ½ years of service.
She enjoyed making ceramics for her family.
Jean and Frank enjoyed vacationing with her Aunt Ruth Ann and Uncle Bill in Pigeon Forge. She like listening to Elvis Presley sing.
She also leaves behind her dog, Bella. Jean was preceded in death by her dogs, Gizmo, Jerry Robert and Bo.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 16, 2015 and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Rev. Reid Walker officiating.
