Dorothy Jean Kaster, 94, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, June 13, 2011 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born September 30, 1916, in Whiteland, she was the daughter of Carl and Ola (Terman) Williams. She married James B. Kaster on February 26, 1939, and he preceded her in death on February 7, 1984.
Survivors include her son, Max J. (wife, Linda) Kaster of St. Matthews. S.C.; daughter, Marlene J. Porter of Salado, Texas; grandchildren, Jon Kaster, Jenni Mason, Jefferson Kaster, Jacquelyn Bradfield, Joshua Kaster, Gina Hauk, Angela Hattabaugh and Shannon Cross.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Sandra Sue Kaster; son-in-law, Rick Porter; and brother, Wendell Williams.
Mrs. Kaster had lived in Fairland for 37 years, in Moral Township for 27 years and in Shelbyville for more than 20 years.
She graduated from Whiteland High School in 1933.
Mrs. Kaster had been a telephone operator employed by Indiana Bell in Fairland, a homemaker and secretary of the Eagles Lodge.
She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, Shelbyville Baptist Temple and Calhoun Baptist Church in St. Matthews, S.C. She also was a member of Order of Eastern Star No. 359 in Fairland, where she served as past worthy matron.
Mrs. Kaster enjoyed sewing, gardening and her family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 10 am, Thursday, June 16, 2011 at the funeral home, with Brother Max Kaster officiating.
Interment will be in Fairland Cemetery.
