Douglas Wayne Tate, 67, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Greenwood. He was born February 23, 1947 in Crawfordsville, the son of Gilbert and Lorrene Tate. He married Cindy Abrahamson on May 23, 1992, and she survives. Other survivors include his step-daughters, Vickie Huber and husband, Jim, of Owatonna, Minnesota, Jodie Miller and husband, Jim, of Francis Creek, Wisconsin and Kristie DeVoe and husband, Jason, of Janesville, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Matthew Nelson, Devan Beyel, Sebastian Beyel, Paige Miller and Lucas Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents. Douglas graduated from Hanford, California in 1966 and attended Northrup College where he received a certificate in Airframe and Power Plants. He was a member of Little Blue River Friends Church. His entire adult life, he worked in aviation, for the last 16 years prior to retiring in 2012, he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. Douglas enjoyed NASCAR and NHRA. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at Little Blue River Friends Church, 5939 N 800E in Morristown. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Pastor Peggy Caldwell officiating. Interment will be at Hanover Cemetery in Shelby County. Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Blue River Friends Church Food Pantry.
