Earl William Mings, 93 of Shelbyville passed away Monday, December 7, 2009 at Morristown Manor.
Born January 1, 1916, in Greensburg, he was the son of Earl and Ivy Olive (Konzelman) Mings. He married Mary Jane Wright on June 28, 1936 and she preceded him in death on April 17, 2003.
Survivors include his sons, Phillip Lee (wife, Sally) Mings of Winter Springs, Florida and William Gregory (wife, Marsha) Mings of Shelbyville; grandsons, Brian (wife, Tara) Mings of Phoeniz, Arizona, Jeff (wife, Elizabeth) Mings of Avondale, Arizona, Collin Mings of St. Petersburg, Florida and Scott (wife, Karen) Mings of Winter Springs, Florida; great-grandchildren, Andrew Mings, Audrey Mings, Harrison Mings, Christopher Mings and Madelon Maschmeier; sister-in-law, Mrs. Raymond (Louise) Mings of Edinburg; cousins, Joyce Konzelman and Shirley Ryle, both of Greensburg; nieces, Patricia (Branson) Cronwell of Dublin, Ohio, Virginia (Branson) Crosby of Shelbyville, Debra (Mings) Barnett of Edinburgh, Patricia (Springhorn) von Keitz of Anchorage, Alaska and Sharon (Mings) Hardwick of Fairland, widow of Dennis Ray Mings; several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Virginia Anne Mings; brother, Raymond Edward Mings; sisters, Peggy Lou Mings and Betty Jean (Mings) Springhorn and a nephew Dennis Ray Mings.
Most of his life Mr. Mings was in the financial business, spending his last working years as Finance Manager at Sandman Brothers, retiring in 1983.
He was a member of First Christian Church, and a life member of B.P.O. Elks.
Mr. Mings loved spending time with his grandsons and attended all their sporting events and programs.
He was an avid tennis player until his mid sixties. In his earlie years he enjoyed working on and driving his French Renault automobiles.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 PM Saturday at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., Shelbyville, Indiana.
