Edith Audrey Mitchell, 97, of Morristown passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at her residence.
She was born July 23, 1920, in Breckenridge County, Kentucky, the daughter of Kelly and Ella (Allen) Pierce. In 1977, she married Homer G. Mitchell, and he preceded her in death in 1999.
Edith is survived by her step-daughter, Tonya Carlton and husband, Bob, of Morristown; sisters, Jewell Keihn and companion, Ed Dickson, and Christabelle Montgomery and husband, Tom, both of Rushville; step-grandchildren, Kenny Carlton, Kevin Carlton and wife, Robin, Teresa Carlton, John Carlton, Kathy Dice and husband, Ben, and Julie Neeb and husband, Eric; step-granddaughter-in-law, Connie Carlton; nieces, Nancy Anderson and husband, J.C., Deda Winkler and husband, Steve, Shirley Seitz and Vicki Marshall; nephews, Dennis Dawson and wife, Char, and Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Keihn; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; and several great-nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; step-son, Philip Mitchell; step-daughter, Barbara Crosley; and step-grandson, Robert Elmer Carlton.
Edith graduated from Rushville High School in 1938.
She was a member of the First Church of God in Rushville, and attended the former Gwynneville Methodist Church.
Edith retired from Indiana Gas Company in Rushville, with 35 years of service.
She was a past national secretary of Kappa Delta Sorority and past treasurer of Rush County Red Cross.
Edith was also a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Rushville.
She enjoyed knitting.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington.
