Edna Mae Cobler, 103, of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the home of her daughter surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born March 31, 1911, in Shelby County to Willis Sanford and Dora Mae (McClure) Fisher. She married William Howard Cobler on January 27, 1929 at the Marietta parsonage. They were married for 69 years when Howard passed away on February 1, 1998.
Edna farmed for 47 years, was a cook at Hendricks Township School for several years and worked at GC Murphy Co. in Franklin for 20 years where she retired.
She was a member of Bengal Methodist Church and attended Westport Christian Church.
Edna loved spending time with her family.
She enjoyed sewing making her and her daughters dresses.
Survivors include her daughters, Nora Douglas and husband, Bill, of Shelbyville and Nola Gilles and husband, Joe, of Flat Rock; daughter-in-law, Elva Cobler of Shelbyville; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Donald Cobler; sister, Hazel Stroup; three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2014 at the funeral home, with her grandson, Pastor Mike Bartlett officiating.
Interment will be at Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Johnson County.
