Edward Fleming “Ed” Dunaway, 87, of Fairland, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Ashford Place Health Campus in Shelbyville.
He was born October 2, 1926, in Muses Mills, Kentucky, the son of Marvin and Hazel (Davis) Dunaway. On December 31, 1949, he married his wife, Frances Kirby, and she preceded him in death on January 9, 1993.
Survivors include his sons, Philip K. Dunaway and wife, Kathy of Fairland, Roger A. Dunaway and wife, Becki of Indianapolis; daughter, Karen Billman and husband, Andrew of Indianapolis; brother, Thomas Dunaway of Greenwood; grandchildren, Shannon Hall, Chad Dunaway, Jacob Billman, Nicholas Dunaway and Briana Dunaway; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Virgil Dunaway and William Dunaway; and sisters, Amy Mullikin and Mary Poppaw.
Ed was a member of Brookfield Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1945 to 1949, as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division.
Ed retired in 1982 as a supervisor at General Motors Truck and Bus, after 35 years of service.
He was an avid bass fisherman, trapper and hunter.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2014 at the funeral home with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Military services will be conducted by the local military committee.
Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014 at Manchester Cemetery in Manchester, Ohio.
