Edward Rariden Standish

Edward Rariden Standish passed away on October 25, 2007, in Shelbyville. He was born in Bedford in 1924 to Fred and Louise Rariden Standish. He graduated from Bedford Public Schools and attended Wabash College before entering the United States Air Corps Pilot Training Program. He became an officer and after his discharge graduated from Indiana University. Edward was in business most of his life in Bedford and Shelbyville and managed the Rariden Family Farms in Lawrence County. His greatest pleasures in life were working with his hunting dogs, walking the farms, and visiting with his many friends throughout the Midwest. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and a brother, Robert J. Standish. He is survived by his brother William R. Standish and sister-in-law Betty Erwin Standish of River Hills, South Carolina; his nephews William R. Standish II of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Myles E. Standish and his wife Shelley Crisp of Greensboro, North Carolina; and several great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his longtime dear friend Paula Sieferst of Shelbyville. On Thursday, November 8 at 3 p.m., there will be a celebration of Edward's life at Ashford Place in Shelbyville, where he spent the last years of his life tended to with care and consideration by the staff. On Friday, November 9 at 11 a.m. at the Bedford American Legion, there will be a celebration of Edward's life and a recognition of his love for wildlife and the land. Following the service his ashes will be taken to the Hill Top Farm where Edward will be returned to the land, animals and birds that he so much enjoyed. The family will receive friends at both Shelbyville and Bedford. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Edward's honor may be given to the White River Humane Society, P.O. Box 792, Bedford, Indiana 47421.
