Edwin O. "Tod" Ashley, Jr., 85 of Shelbyville passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born July 8, 1922, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he was the son of Edwin O. and Besse (Mix) Ashley Sr. He married Frances Thralls on February 14, 1948, and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughter, Susan Dalton of Shelbyville; sister, E. Ann Gould of Palm Desert, Calif.; and grandson Ben Dalton of Bloomington.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert L. Ashley.
Mr. Ashley had lived in Columbus for seven years.
He had been employed at the former General Electric Co., and Wellman Thermall Systems for 25 years, retiring in 1980. He was previously employed at Arvin Industries.
Mr. Ashley was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving as a second lieutenant in B-29s.
He graduated from Peoria Central High School in Peoria, IL and attended Indiana University, where he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Internation Fraternity.
Mr. Ashley was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and life member of Shelbyville Elks Ledge, where he was a continuous member for more than 60 years. He was a past president of Shelbyville chapter of Toastmasters International. While in Columbus, he served as president of the columbus Municipal Golf Course for two years.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison Street.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Campbell officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
