Eldon Buford Davis, 85, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, January 15, 2012 at his residence.
Born December 7, 1926, in Cleveland, Indiana, he was the son of Frank and Marie Davis. He married Vera Koch on September 3, 1947, and she survives.
Other survivors include his son, Jerry Davis of Waldron; granddaughters, Brandy (husband, Robert) Jenkins of Fortville and Brooke Davis Wampler of Waldron; great-grandchildren, Austin, Clayton, Brandon, Grace, Ashton and Jayce; daughter-in-law and caregiver, Kathleen Davis of Waldron; and several nieces and nephews including Ronnie Williams, Carol Williams and Sandra Justus.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael James Davis; brothers, Grant Davis and Farrel Davis; sisters, Bernice Justus and Delores Williams; and niece, Diana Justus.
Mr. Davis was a lifelong Shelby County resident.
He retired from Allison/General Motors in 1981, after 30 years of service; while working at Allison's he also worked part-time at Jack Higgin's Gulf. After retirement, he worked part-time as a security guard at Wellman's.
Mr. Davis was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local Number 933.
Mr. Davis enjoyed woodcrafting projects and tinkering with lawn mowers.
A gathering of friends will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
