Eleanor Jean Lortz

July 8, 1923 — February 17, 2013

Eleanor Jean Lortz, 89, of Manilla, passed away to be with the Lord, Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Ashford Place Health Campus. She was born July 8, 1923, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of LeRoy J. and Ruth V. (Linville) Mohr. She married Arthur J. Lortz on October 27, 1945, and they celebrated 60 years of marriage, prior to him preceding her in death on November 25, 2005. Survivors include her sons, Gary Lortz of Manilla and Allan (wife, Susie) Lortz of Noblesville; daughter, Connie Lortz of Manillla and grandsons, Brian Lortz of New Hampshire and Kevin Lortz of Westfield. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two infant sisters. After graduating from Waldron High School she was employed at the Shelbyville Woolworth as a soda fountain waitress in the early 1940’s. She was later employed at General Electric and Wellman Thermal Systems from 1954 to 1983. In her later years she enjoyed flower gardening, mowing lawns and caring for pets, especially her latest cat “Caesar.” Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Pastor Troy Collett officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Beacon Baptist Church, 918 E. McKay Road, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
