Eleanor "Joan" Fritz

Eleanor “Joan” Fritz, 81, of New Castle, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014 at her residence. She was born June 4, 1933, in Marion County, the daughter of Harry L. and Rachel (Fulton) Garnier. She married Herbert “Gene," "Herbie" or "Shorty” Fritz on August 30, 1952, and he preceded her in death on August 15, 1999. Survivors include her daughter, Melinda S. Sosbe of new Castle; sons, David G. Fritz and wife, Jan and Bill Fritz, both of Shelbyville; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was also preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Jesse Fritz and a great-granddaughter, Vanessa Fritz. Joan graduated from Speedway High School in 1951 and attended Ivy Tech College for accounting. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. Joan retired from the State of Indiana, where she was director of the personnel department computer programming, after 30 years of services. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and attending softball tournaments. She and her husband helped coach a professional softball team. Joan loved dogs. A Celebration of Life will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. A memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville at a later date.
