Elizabeth L. "Betty" Brown, 84, of Shelbyville passed away Thursday, February 23, 2012, at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born July 14, 1927, in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of George Ray and Bertha L. (Wicker) Brown.
Survivors include her daughter, Raquel (husband, Alejandro) Castillo of Shelbyville; sisters, Avonelle Banker and Charlotte Bates, both of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Ravin Headlee, Jacob Castillo, Jazmine Castillo and Derrick Bates; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Paul Brown.
Miss Brown was a lifelong Shelby County resident.
She graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1946, and received her nursing degree from St. Vincent School of Nursing and bachelor of science degree from Marion College.
Miss Brown was one of the first nurse practitioners in Indiana and served in the mission fields of Bolivia, South America.
She was a member of The Pilgrim Holiness Church, 1000 Hospital Road in Franklin.
Betty adored her grandchildren and enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading, sewing and knitting.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Monday, February 27, 2012 at The Pilgrim Holiness Church, 1000 Hospital Road, Franklin, Indiana.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon at the church, with the Rev. Tim Forsee officiating.
Interment will be in Bennett Cemetery.

Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
