Elmer George Jewell, 84, of Shelby County, died Friday, April 14, 2006, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin.
Born Aug. 7, 1921, in Cave City, Ky., he was the son of the late Ernest and Joan (Hazen) Jewell. He married Vivian Christine Lee, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 30, 1991. He married Rose Jones in February of 1993, and she preceded him in death in May of 1997.
Survivors include one son, James R. ?Bob? (wife, Janet) Jewell of Edinburgh; three stepdaughters, Johna Mae Bowman of Franklin, Juanita McKee of Whiteland and Carolyn Sue Peterson of Wasilla, Ala.; two brothers, Donnie Jewell of Frostproof, Fla., and Ronnie Jewell of Franklin; three grandchildren, Mark Jewell and Brad Jewell, both of Franklin, and Kim Smith of Muncie; and seven great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by seven brothers, Everett Jewell, Earl Jewell, Garner Jewell, Elden Jewell, Wesley Jewell and two infant brothers; a half brother, Wilson Hodges; and two stepdaughters, Ruth Mitchell and Marge Coffey.
Mr. Jewell had been a Shelby County resident most of his life.
He had been a plumber at Fort Harrison from 1948 until retiring in 1980.
Mr. Jewell was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.
He was a member of Faith Christian Assembly at Fenns Crossing.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Jewell and the Rev. Darrell Geralds officiating.
Interment will be in Second Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Johnson County.
