Elmer N. "Sonny" Bowman, 66, of Flat Rock, died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus.
Born Sept. 4, 1941, in Fairland, he was the son of Charles and Pinola (Wells) Bowman. He married Sherry L. Kuhn on Aug. 15, 1969, and she survives.
Other survivors include his sons, Greg (wife, Sue) Bowman of Greensburg, Karl Bowman and Ryon (wife, Tammy) Bowman, both of Shelbyville; daughters, Angie (husband, Herschel) Frazee of Hope and Kimberly (husband, Shawn) Eggers of Connersville; sisters, Peggy Bowman of Alabama, Dessie Bowman of South Carolina and Pam Bowman of Shelbyville; brothers, Ronnie Bowman and Bobbie Bowman, both of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Cassey Bowman, Daniel Harvey, Amber Harvey, Beth Bowman, Olivia Bowman, Chloe Eggers, Graydon Eggers and Aubrey Eggers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bryon Keith Bowman; sister, Brenda Bowman; and brother, Rick Bowman.
Mr. Bowman was a boilermaker with Amtrak in Beech Grove for 30 years and worked in construction for several years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Mr. Bowman had attended Fairland High School.
He was a member of Eagles Lodge in Beech Grove and Sulpher Hills Sportsman Club.
Mr. Bowman enjoyed fishing, hunting, road farming and spending time with his grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Zion United Church of Christ, 7025 E. 100N.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Dr. Mary M. Lundgren officiating.
Interment will be in Zion Cemetery in Shelby County, with military rites conducted by local military committee.
Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., is handling the arrangements.
