Elsie Mae Heistand, 88, went to meet her Lord and Savior on December 9th, 2009. She passed into Eternity at Regency Place in Greenwood; but, was a lifelong resident of Shelby County.
Elsie was born February 7, 1921 in Fairland, the youngest daughter of Charles and Nellie (Ensminger) Beaumont. She married Kenneth Heistand on May 20, 1950. He preceded her in death on June 6, 1984. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Martha Homes, Frances Lowe and Kathryn Ponsler.
Survivors include tow sons, Jerry (wife, Kathy)of Greenwood and Dean (wife, Cheri) of Greenfield; a beloved granddaughter Sarah of Greenfield, an "almost twin" sister Lourene of Shelbyville, and several generations of neices and nephews.
Elsie Graduated in 1939 from Moral Township High School. She was a licensed cosmotologist and owned a beauty shop in the old Methodist Building in Shelbyville prior to becoming a wife and mother.
She was a 60+ year member of First United Methodist Church in Shelbyville; was an active member of the United Methodist Women, holding the office of President for several years; and also served on most of the committees at one time. Elsie loved her Lord and she loved her church.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, with visitation one hour prior, at the First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington St., Shelbyville, Indiana.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
