Elved Samuel "Chief" Brown

Elved Samuel "Chief" Brown, 70, of Shelbyville died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at his home. Born Aug. 1, 1940, he was the son of Olma and Lexie (Phillips) Brown. Survivors include his sister, Mary Jane Brown; nephews, Todd Shepard and Don Murrell; and nieces, Sabrina Shepard and Cheyanne Murrell. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandmother, Rachel Hollars; and sisters, Wilma Brown, Alma Brown, Stella Murrell and Faye Aulby. A private traditional Native American ceremony to honor him will be conducted Wednesday on Big Blue River in Hancock County, with Navajo Shaman Sun dancer Keith Curley officiating. Prayers and memorials in honor of the "Chief" are appreciated. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S.
