Emerald S. "Buck" Everhart

August 13, 1919 — July 12, 2016

Emerald S. “Buck” Everhart, 96, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at his residence. He was born August 13, 1919, the son of Elisha Waters and Sabina “Bina” (Stewart) Everhart. On November 29, 1946, he married his wife of 69 years, Mary L. (Thompson) Everhart, and she survives. Buck is also survived by his daughter, Deloris “Dee” Evilsizer and husband, Marshall, of Castle Rock, Colorado; sons, William D. Everhart and wife, Carolyn, of Norman, Indiana , Elisha M. Everhart of Tipp City, Ohio, and Michael R. Everhart and wife, Janet, of Morristown; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He took special delight in his grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom he had nicknamed. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ernest F. Everhart, Virgil Everhart, Floyd Everhart and Marvin Everhart; sisters, Elsie I. Everhart, Eliza Engleking , Oleta L. Everhart, Ersa Lowery, Pauline Peacock and Avonelle Everhart; and a grandson, Steven Evilsizer. Buck was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the LST 711. He attended Brookville Road Community Church. Buck formerly worked at Soil Service and Blue River Packing Company, retiring from General Electric, in 1983. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 102 in Morristown. Buck enjoyed writing poetry, antique cars, and traveling. Buck was well known for his sense of humor and his art of storytelling. Visitation will be on Friday, July 15, 2016 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brookville Road Community Church, 7480 US-52, New Palestine, and on Saturday, July 16, 2016 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. Funeral services and a Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown, with military graveside rites. Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 124 E. North St. in Morristown. Memorial contributions may be made to Hancock Regional Hospice, 801 N. State St., Greenfield, Indiana 46140 or Brookville Road Community Church.
