Emma Ellen Hansen

Emma Ellen Hansen, 76, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 at Cypress Run in Morristown. She was born November 1, 1940, in Grover, Missouri, the daughter of Robert and Edna (Basham) Stevens. On November 28, 1960, she married Robert Hansen, and he preceded her in death on January 3, 2014. Emma is survived by her daughters, Cindy Hansen and significant other, Randy Towe, Kimberly Hansen, Kelly West, all of Shelbyville, Cathy Cain of Laurel, and Erica Chudzinski and husband, Ron, of Fairland; sons, Eric Hansen and significant other, Sade’ Marie Hall, and Dale Nigh and wife, Misty, both of Shelbyville; sisters, Rosemary Moellering of Pacific, Missouri, Connie Countie of Littleton, Colorado, and Cat Stevens of Miramar, Florida; brother, Michael Stevens and wife, Sue, of Miramar; grandchildren, Leigh Ellen, Trevor, Jessica, John-Robert, Drew, Trevor Ryo, Scarlett, Sadie Jo, and Aria; great-granddaughter, Harlow Isabelle; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Stephen Strollo; son-in-law, Milton Cain; sisters, Betty June Stevens, Clara Parr, Bobby Jean Hansen and Linda Basham; and brothers, Earl Stevens and Jim Stevens. Emma graduated in 1959 from Eureka High School in Eureka, Missouri, and was the valedictorian of her class. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Emma was a troop mom for Brownies, 4-H leader and surrogate mother to everyone, her door was always open. She enjoyed reading and crafts. Emma was a wonderful cook. She formerly raced quarter horses. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 125 E. Broadway St. in Shelbyville. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 8604 Allisonville Road, Suite 140, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
