Ermagene "Jean" DeWitt, 82, of Shelbyville died Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Major Hospital.
Born Aug. 18, 1924, in Bryan, Ohio, she was the daughter of Orville and Lucille D. (Easterly) Impton. She married Elmer Noble DeWitt on May 30, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 1994.
Survivors include her sons, Richard E. Delaney and James W. (wife, Connie) DeWitt, both of Shelbyville; daughters, Patty DeWitt of Shelbyville and Peggy (husband, J.C. "Pete") Deakyne of Noblesville; grandsons, Jeffery J. DeWitt, Gary D. Deakyne and Timothy J. DeWitt; and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eugene Impton, Guy Impton and Walt Impton; sisters, Pauline Coy, Claudine Bostleman and infant Nellie Virginia Impton.
Mrs. DeWitt moved to Shelbyville in 1976 from Noblesville.
She was the owner and operator of the Shelbyville Cinema and Skyline Drive In and managed and owned several other theaters, ran a bookkeeping machine for an auto parts company in Defiance, Ohio, and worked for a jewelry business in Defiance and in Noblesville.
Mrs. DeWitt was a member of Shelby Senior Services Board of Directors; Order of Eastern Star in Bryan, Ohio; Business and Professional Women in Shelbyville; Variety Club of Indiana, serving as past president; and First Presbyterian Church, where she served as former president of the women's association.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gary W. Huffman officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
