Estel “Tuck” Broughton, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 at his residence.
He was born April 27, 1926, in South Shore, Kentucky, the son of Edward and Ethel (Watkins) Broughton. On March 29, 1946, he married his wife of 68 years, Goldie Viola Lane, and she survives.
Other survivors include his son, Jim Broughton and wife, Debbie of Shelbyville; daughters, Linda Dennis and husband, Steve, Mary Roe and husband, Gregg and Pam Laughlin and husband, Tom, all of Shelbyville; brother, Donald Broughton of Fort Myers, Florida; sisters, Bernice Ratliff of Norfolk, Virginia, Betty Aulby of Chillicothe, Ohio and Jeanie Ellis of New Boston, Ohio; grandchildren, Angie Broughton-Romain, Jodi Broughton, Marcie Farley, Steve Dennis II, Nathan Cline, Becki Cline, Brady Laughlin, Christy Laughlin and Scott Laughlin; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Issac and Hannah Farley, Alex and Natalie Vanest, Henry and Nora Romain, Melanie and Marissa Cline, Ashley, Logan and Mackenzie Laughlin and Rowan McKenny; and several nieces and nephews.
Tuck was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ishie Broughton; and sister, Adalie Dunbar.
He was a very active member of Evangelical Methodist Church.
Tuck was a US Army veteran, serving during World War II.
He owned and operated Tuck’s Radiator Service for 35 years, retiring in 1989.
Tuck enjoyed riding motorcycles, camping and traveling. He was an avid collector of junk.
He loved spending time with his family and visiting with his friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville and from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Evangelical Methodist Church, 267 E. Washington St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with Rev. Jim Coulston and Pastor Tony Meads officiating.
Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
