Eva Jean (DePrez) Theobald Gooding

Eva Jean (DePrez) Theobald Gooding, 88, of Franklin, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2014 at IU Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born November 9, 1925, in Union Township, Shelby County, Indiana, the daughter of Elmer and Katie (Kuhn) DePrez. She married Asa G. Theobald on December 27, 1951, and he preceded her in death on October 31, 1986. On May 20, 2000, she married Opal Aldo “Al” Gooding, and he preceded her in death on November 18, 2001. Survivors include her sons, John Michael “Mike” Theobald and wife, Sandy, of Shelbyville and Mark DePrez Theobald of Edinburgh; brothers, Edmund DePrez of Greenfield and Joe DePrez of Shelbyville; grandson, Bruce Theobald and fiancée, Jennifer Gilles; granddaughter, Shannon Wolfe and husband, Luke; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Lloyd F. DePrez and Elmer Eugene DePrez. Eva graduated from Morristown High School in 1943. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. Eva worked at Blue River Special Education, as an instructional aide for 15 years, retiring in 1988. She was a volunteer at Shelby Senior Services for 15 years, and was a friendly visitor with the United Methodist Women. Eva had resided at the Franklin United Methodist Community since 2009. She enjoyed spending time and socializing with family and friends. Visitation will be from 10 am to noon, Monday, October 20, 2014 at Wright Memorial Chapel in Franklin United Methodist Community, 1070 W. Jefferson St. in Franklin and from 10 am to noon, Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 12 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin United Methodist Community.
