Eva Mae (Poe) Phares

Eva Mae (Poe) Phares, 100, of Shelbyville passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Major Hospital. Born April 18, 1907, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Peter and Abigail Beatrice (Coffman) Poe. She married Leonard R. Phares on June 20, 1925, and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1988. Survivors include her daughters, Victoria Jean (husband, William) Lovitt of Shelbyville, Beverly Sue (husband, James) Grubb of Lafayette and Mary Bea Grubb of McCordsville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jack Richard Phares; son-in-law, Frank Grubb; three sisters; two brothers; one granddaughter; and one great-granddaughter. Mrs. Phares was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church and former member of the Order of Eastern Star Naamah Chapter. Mrs. Phares was known for her 'busy hands' and all of the needlework she created. Visitaion will be from 1:30 to 3 P.m. Sunday at First Baptist church, 27 W. Broadway St. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church, with the Revs. Robert Campbell and Al Brown and Pastor Mary Lundgren officiating. Interment will be in Bennett Cemetery in Shelby County. Services were entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Harrison Street Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 27 W. Broadway St., Shelbyville, IN 46176.
