Evelyn Eileen Montgomery

Evelyn Eileen Montgomery, 91, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, November 14, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born December 31, 1919, in Shelby County, she was the daughter of Albert and Mayme (Copeland) Hoban. Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Ann (husband, John) Shambach of Covington; granddaughter, Heidi Sue (husband, Adam) Shambach of Covington; grandson, Phillip Montgomery (wife, Jill) Shambach of Lafayette; and great-grandchildren, Travis Hay, Evan Johnson and Riley Shambach. She was preceded in death by her parents. Mrs. Montgomery was a nurse, she formerly worked at Major Hospital, did private duty nursing, and was the office nurse for Dr. W.R. Tindall during the last 25 years of his practice; she then retired after working for several years at Heritage Manor. She graduated from Waldron High School in 1938, she and some of her classmates still got together often, and received her nursing degree from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1941. Mrs. Montgomery was a member of Lewis Creek Baptist Church, she was instrumental in helping with the church newsletter, she was also a 50-year member of Flat Rock Chapter #473 Order of the Eastern Star and was past state president of Indiana Medical Assistants Association. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm, Friday, November 18, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St., and from 10:30 to 11 am, Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Lewis Creek Baptist Church, 5998 South State Road 9, Shelbyville. Funeral services will be at 11 am, Saturday at the church, with Pastor Steven Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lewis Creek Baptist Church, 5998 South State Road 9, Shelbyville, Indiana or Blue River Community Foundation, 54 W. Broadway, Suite 1, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176.
