Everett "Ego" Davis

Everett "Ego" Davis, 84, of Morristown passed away Monday, September 13, 2010, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. Born April 18, 1926, in Rushville, he was the son of Walter and Flora (McFarland) Davis. He married Wilma Coral Merrell on April 17, 1948, and she preceded him in death on December 4, 1997. Survivors include his son, Steven Merrell (wife, Tamera) Davis of Morristown; daughter, Susan L. Davis of Fairland; sisters, LaVerne Reinertsen of Fountaintown, Virginia Anderson of Morristown and Gayle Pieper of New Palestine; brother, Richard Merrell of Hebron, Illinois; grandchildren, Janice Louise Davis, Steven Everett Davis and Mikayla Grace Davis, all of Morristown; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Wayne Davis, Charles Robert "Bob" Davis, Richard Davis and Scott Merrell; and sisters, Bonnie McVey and Esther Ponsler. Mr. Davis was a lifelong resident of Morristown. He was a freezer operator for Borden Inc., retiring in September of 1985, after 40 years of service. Mr. Davis had attended Morristown High School. He was a member of Fairland United Methodist Church; United States Auto Club; a 45-year member of Morristown Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a past president of the corporation; and lifetime member of Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association. Mr. Davis enjoyed auto racing and camping, until his last camping trip. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Morristown United Methodist Church; friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Kenneth Wooden will officiate. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Morristown. Memorial contributions may be made to Morristown Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 326, Morristown, Indiana 46161;; or Fairland United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 181, Fairland, Indiana 46126.
