After a battle with Alzheimer’s, Frances passed away on Friday, May 1, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. She was 94 years old and born October 16, 1920 in Hendricks Township, Shelby County, Indiana.
Frances was the daughter of the late Paul Blaine and Alice (Kirschbaum) Parker. She married Maurice T. Cherry, on October 29, 1947, who preceded her in death on October 22, 2000.
Her son, William Blaine, also passed away in 2003.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Ann Cherry, of Mitchell, Indiana.
Frances had two sisters, the late Martha L. Corbett of Indianapolis, Indiana and the late Mary E. Kehrt of Rush County, Indiana. Also, she had two surviving nephews, Thomas L. Corbett of Brentwood, Tennessee and James A. Corbett of Seaman, Ohio.
Frances was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and a Circle leader. She was also a member of Chapter AL,P.E.O. Sisterhood and Shelby County Diligent Diggers Garden Club.
She enjoyed volunteering for a long time at Major Hospital in the Gift Shop. In earlier years, she was active at Senior Services Respite Care Center, American Cancer Society, and Girl Scouts.
Frances graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1938 and attended Business college.
Which led her to being a private and legal secretary before her marriage.
Later, she was a homemaker and enjoyed extensive traveling with her family. She loved her family, nature and friends.
Enjoying being outdoors as she did, she was very enthusiastic about helping her husband, physically, in building their first home after marriage. Then later, they continued building two more homes for their growing family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at the funeral home, with Rev. Mark Morningstar officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
