Fred L. "Bud" Cox, 81, of Indianapolis, died Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis.
Born May 6, 1925, in Bartholomew County, he was the son of Daniel and Nannie (Olmstead) Cox. He married Betty Jean Ritchison, and she preceded him in death in 1977. He married Frances Henderson, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1995. He married Rachel M. Taylor, and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Clinton ?Wayne? (wife, Patty) Cox of Columbus; two daughters, Cathy Correan Gahimer of Evansville and Carroll Jean Cox of Columbus; one sister, Frances Cox of Columbus; four grandchildren, Cara Sanders, Crystal Larrison, Christopher Gahimer and Camden Cox; and three great-grandchildren, Scott Sanders, Brendan Larrison and Caleb Larrison.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, William Cox, Robert Cox, George Cox and Homer Cox; and four sisters, Evelyn Cox, Mary Cox, Dorothy Cox and Nora ?Toots? Miller.
Mr. Cox had lived in Indianapolis since 1996. He previously had been a Shelby County resident since 1969.
He had been employed at Golden Operation Foundry in Columbus for 28 years and with the Shelby County Highway Department since 1979.
Mr. Cox was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a staff sergeant.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 70, Greenwood Moose Lodge and past member of the Eagles Lodge Shelbyville. He attended Shelby Street Wesleyan Church in Indianapolis.
Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p. m. Thursday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes, Carmony-Ewing Broadway Chapel, 232 W. Broadway St.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Jackson officiating.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.
