Gary Wayne Cowen, 63, of Shelbyville, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Major Hospital in Shelbyville.
He was born July 5, 1952, in Shelbyville, the son of Paul Wayne and Freda F. (Sweet) Cowen. On August 25, 1984, he married his wife of 31 years, Lori Lenning, and she survives.
Gary is also survived by his sisters, Sue Theobald and husband, Larry, and Janice M. Baker and husband, Richard, both of Shelbyville; brothers, Carl Eugene Cowen and Joey L. Cowen and wife, Kim, both of Shelbyville; father and mother-in-law, Walter H. and Mary Alice Lenning of Morristown; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Dustin Cowen.
Gary graduated from Shelbyville High School.
He retired as a maintenance supervisor at Spenax and Securitas in 2014.
Gary enjoyed woodcarving and coin hunting with his metal detector.
He loved the time he spent with his family and friends.
Gary also leaves behind his dog, Yager.
A gathering of friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2016 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with Pastors Tony Meads and Robb Barlow officiating.
Interment will be at Miller Cemetery in Shelby County.
The special love and care shown to Gary and Lori, by their nephew, Robbie Cowen during this time, will always be remembered.
