Genevieve Spurling Kelly, 74, of Shelbyville passed away Friday, January 6, 2012 at her residence.
Born February 11, 1937, in Kentucky, she was the daughter of George Alvin and Edith (Bright) Spurling. She married Lt. General John R. Kelly, Jr. on July 24, 1976, and he preceded her in death on June 26, 2009.
Survivors include daughters, Leah D. Knight and Gwendolyn J. Keller, both of Shelbyville; son, John C. (wife, Janice) Savage of Lakeland, Florida; brother, George "Jr." Spurling of Shelbyville; granddaughters, Roxanna Kelly of Coral Springs, Florida, Genevie (husband, Kent) Ritchie of Waynesboro, Virginia and Christian Kramer of Belleville, Illinois; grandson, Steven J. Willmy of Shelbyville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, John Roger Kelly; brothers, John William Spurling and Hanley Spurling; and sister, Geneva Potter.
Mrs. Kelly was a former civil service employee.
She graduated from Waldron High School in 1955, and returned to Shelbyville to live in 1979.
Mrs. Kelly was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Shelbyville Women's Club, Shelbyville History Club and a lifetime member of the Indianapolis Museum of Arts. She was an avid supporter of the activities at The Strand Theatre.
She was an antique dealer and collector; she loved the arts and theatre, and enjoyed gardening and reading.
She loved her family and her beloved cat "Kittie".
Calling will be from 10 to 11 am, Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington St. in Shelbyville, with a memorial service at 11 am, the Rev. Bob Land will officiate.
