George Meal Jr., 76, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 in Chula Vista, California.
He was born August 2, 1939, in Rush County, the son of George and Violet (Wendling) Meal.
George is survived by his son, Jason Meal of Shelbyville; daughter, Michelle Meal-Smith and husband, Scott, of Shelbyville; sisters, Betty Goodwin of Florida, Mary Yarling and husband Wayne, of Shelby County, and Elizabeth Spears and husband, Jerry, of Corvallis, Montana; grandchildren, Treyton Meal, Jaydon Meal and Rae-leen Meal; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard Meal, Jack Meal and Jerry Meal; sister, Amanda Meal; and two brothers and two sisters.
George graduated from Morristown High School in 1958, where he played varsity basketball.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a seaman.
George was a union carpenter and long-haul truck driver.
He liked horses and enjoyed traveling and the water.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 at Forest Hill Cemetery, 705 Morris Avenue in Shelbyville, with military rites by the local military committee.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
