George Raymond Breedlove, 83, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, July 11, 2016.
He was born March 31, 1933 in Shelbyville, the son of Raymond F. and Jane (VanPelt) Breedlove.
George is survived by his sisters, Mary Wickizer of Shelbyville and Jane Lauerman and husband, Victor, of Fowler; and five nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Diane Breedlove; and brother-in-law, Hugh Wickizer.
George graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1952, Indiana University and attended Traphagen School of Design.
He worked for Ray F. Breedlove Agency and P. G. Sanders and Son; before joining L.S. Ayres and Company. At L.S. Ayres, he began in the display department (visual merchandising), moving on to be the buyer of sportswear; women’s coats; Divisional Merchandise Manager; Assistant Store Manager and Manager of Greenwood Branch Store and the Area Manager of Sycamore Cygent Shops, a division of L.S. Ayres.
After retiring from L.S. Ayres, he became the manager of Tippecanoe Press Retail Store.
George designed the present Shelbyville Flag and the Emblem issued on city official business.
He was active for many years in the First United Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school teacher and many positions on the board.
A gathering of friends will be from 10:30 to 11 a. m. Saturday, July 16, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church, 34 W. Washington St. in Shelbyville.
A Celebration of George’s life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with Rev. Colin Cress officiating.
Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
Services have been entrusted to Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
