George Wayne Newton, Sr.

January 12, 1943 — June 17, 2012

George Wayne Newton, Sr., 69, of Shelbyville passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Born January 12, 1943, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Cloyd W. and Della Rae (Pike) Newton. He married Susan Leigh Williams on September 16, 1966, and she survives. Other survivors include his sons, George W. Newton, Jr. of Bloomington and Toby C. Newton of Shelbyville; daughter, Jana L. (husband, John) Newton-Hansen of Carmel; and grandchildren, Savana Hansen, Skye Hansen and Gabriel Hansen. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Newton was currently employed at Indianapolis Fruit Company, Inc. as a sales merchandiser. He served in the Army National Guard in the early 1960's. He was a member of the Waldron Masonic Lodge, Shriners and Scottish Rite. Mr. Newton enjoyed golfing, NASCAR and was a collector of things old and new. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1961. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2012 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012 at the funeral home, with Rev. Randall Slavans officiating Interment will be in Norristown Cemetery, with graveside military rites. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 6415 Castleway West Drive, Suite 114, Indianapolis, Indiana 46250.
