Georgia C. McCracken, 98, of Shelbyville passed away Monday, March 15, 2010 at Ashford Place Health Campus.
Born August 26, 1911, in Benham, Virginia, she was the daughter of George Carter and Margaret (McNutt) Baker. She married Gilbert McCracken on September 6, 1928, and he preceded her in death in December of 1996.
Survivors include her son, Jerry (wife, Martha) McCracken of Shelbyville; granchildren, Michael McCracken, Phillip Hartman, Lucinda Hartman and Marci Hungerford; and great-grandchildren, Rachael, Danny, Jared, Natalie, Nicholas, Patrick, Morgan and Madigan.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Joanne Hartman; great-grandson, Jonathan McCracken; sisters, Gladys Latture, Mabel Wise, Velma Pullen and Ella Bentalage; and brother, William Baker.
Mrs. McCracken had resided in Shelbyville since moving from Richmond, Indiana in 1932.
She was the office manager at the former Inlow Clinic, retiring in the late 1980's.
Mrs. McCracken was a member of First Christian Church in Shelbyville, where she was the first president of women's council, serving from 1947 to 1949. She was also a member of Business and Professional Women's and Medical Assistants Association.
She was a 58-years survivor of breast cancer.
Mrs. McCracken had attended Terhune Business School.
Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison Street.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nathan D. Wilson and Pastor Evie Stuard officiating.
Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
