Gerald Leo "Jerry" Potts, Sr., 74, of Shelbyville, a former Bloomington resident, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Born March 14, 1936, in Paxton, Illinois, he was the son of Leo and Helen (Maddix) Potts. He married Doris McCown on June 18, 1957, and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughters, Vickie (husband, Robert) Lett of Milton and Tricia (husband, Evan) Casey of Shelbyville; son, Jerry L. Potts, Jr. of Palm Harbor, Florida; grandson, Jason (wife, Wendy) Whaley; granddaughters, Kimberly (husband, Kent) Rohlfing, Kristen (fiance, Isaiah Ireland) Whaley and Hailey Renae Potts; and great-granddaughter, Emily Whaley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Before moving to Shelbyville in 2010, he had lived in Bloomington since 1971.
He graduated from Rantoul High School in 1954, and in 1962 from Eastern Illinois University.
He was an insurance marketing representative for Indiana Insurance for approximately 15 years, retiring in 1986.
Mr. Potts was a member of TKE fraternity. He enjoyed coin collecting, geocaching and golf, and he was a marathon runner, history buff and photographer.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 pm, Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison Street in Shelbyville.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm, Saturday at the funeral home, with Pastor Evan Casey officiating.
