Gerald Richard Johnson, 70, of Rushville, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation in Greenfield.
He was born October 18, 1945, in Greenfield, the son of William B. Johnson and Mildred V. (Gates) Ross. On August 16, 1969, he married his wife of 46 years, Lela Louise Raikes, and she survives.
Gerald is also survived by his sons, Jesse C. Johnson and wife, Andrea, of Greenfield, and Bryan E. Johnson and wife, Angie, of Rushville; brothers, Bob Johnson and wife, Martina, of Indianapolis, and John Eastes and wife, Beverly, of Greenfield; sisters, Mary Dairy of Tallahassee, Florida and Rosie Cochran and husband, Lewis, New Whiteland; step-granddaughter, Kelcie Wright.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald graduated from Hancock Central High School in 1964.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during Vietnam.
Gerald was a member and formerly attended Fountaintown Christian Church.
He retired from General Motors Plant No. 17 in Anderson, as a production worker in October of 1994. Gerald was a member of United Auto Workers Local No. 663.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, December 13, 2015 Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Frazier Chapel, 124 E. North St. in Morristown.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., December 14, 2015 at the funeral home.
Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown, with military rites conducted by the local military committee.
